Water & Hazards Working Group at Virginia Tech
Welcome to my academic home! I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and faculty in the Virginia Water Resources Research Center at Virginia Tech. I am also affiliated with the Center for Coastal Studies, Fralin Life Sciences Institute, and Center for Emerging, Zoonotic, and Arthropod-Borne Pathogens.

My research examines human-environment interactions, specifically the human ecology of water and the intersection of hazards and anthropic systems. Primary research interests include access to water, household water treatment, the provision of sanitation services, and disaster reconstruction in the WASH sector.
My teaching explores human dimensions of contemporary environmental issues—often from a critical perspective—with content from our backyard in Virginia to far reaches of the globe.
